And The Beat Goes On – The Whispers

I’m growing a moustache to raise money for the Movember Foundation. So this month I will be honouring some of the best moustaches in music. You can donate to my mo here: https://mobro.co/harry-mo

Hey there disco fans! This is a 1979 classic from the vaults. Slinky, feel-good straight out of Cali. Turn up the central heating, close your eyes and imagine it’s Summer.

THIS IS THE FINAL POST IN NOVEMBER. I’VE MADE IT!!! And what ‘tashes to end on – massive props to the moustache game going on with these guys. Get ready to enjoy a tonne of new music from tomorrow.

Bonus track: recognise those chords? Yeah, it’s from here

Kick, Push – Lupe Fiasco

I’m growing a moustache to raise money for the Movember Foundation. So this month I will be honouring some of the best moustaches in music. You can donate to my mo here: https://mobro.co/harry-mo

Not Lupe’s most famous, but my favourite. Kick, Push is a lovable little rap track about finding love on a skateboard. “Just a rebel looking for a place to be.” Aren’t we all Lupe. Aren’t we all.

The album is Food & Liquor, check it out if you like what you hear.

All Along the Watchtower – Jimi Hendrix

If I could transport myself back to any concert in history, I’d go to 1969 Woodstock. Jimi Hendrix played one of the longest sets of his career and the festival itself is a part of counter-cultural folklore. There are some moments in history when music wraps itself into the social consciousness – this was one of them.

Little Lion Man – Mumford & Sons

Something rocky for you this Sunday. Not many people do anthemic indie-rock better than Mumford & Sons, and boy is Little Lion Man a classic. If you want more Mumford they have a new album out, Delta, and they are on tour too.

Bonus track: hey, I’m posting Mumford & Sons today. Have a bit of this.

September – Earth, Wind & Fire

Help yourself to a bit of this funk classic. It has to be up there with the biggest of all time. Glossy vocals, jaunty bass and positively grinning horns. It all adds up to a beaut of a track from Earth, Wind & Fire.

Bonus track: #Notjustaonehitwonder

Bonus track #2: Because why not? Rainbow Unicorn.

Spayce – Andhim

What’s your favourite music video? This is up there with mine – a delicious mind-bending sci-fi number. And this song? Well this song is just 100% housey pumping goodness. Turn it up and enjoy.

Bonus track: Andhim are pretty decent you know. Here’s some more feel-good house from the German duo.

2000 – Grand Puba

Some more old-skool rap coming at ya. 2000 is Grand Puba’s 2nd album, confusingly released in 1995. Smooth vibes. My picks from the album are Back Stabbers and I Like It (I Wanna Be Where You Are). If you recognise the latter, it’s probably because you played Tony Hawk’s Underground 2.

Shout out to Guy Perkins for the heads-up.

Heartbreaker (Feat. John Legend) – MSTRKRFT

Let me take you back to 2009. Barack Obama has just become President. Chrysler has just become bankrupt. Ireland are on their way to a Grand Slam. And that heavy electro-house is in vogue. Here is MSTRKRFT’s finest work.

Two things before I leave you: first, a big shout out to Al for the suggestion. Secondly, this fact: the band took the vowels out of their name to avoid trademark infringement with Mastercraft, a Canadian tools company. Have a bit of that.
