DJ Harvey

I’m growing a moustache to raise money for the Movember Foundation. So this month I will be honouring some of the best moustaches in music. You can donate to my mo here: https://mobro.co/harry-mo?

This guy is revered as a bit of a God in the house scene. Famous for genre-bending sets of epic proportions. DJ Harvey is London-born but now travels the world as a superstar of the scene. Highly recommend. And boy, what a moustache.

Also, one of my favourite quotes of all time. “You can’t understand the blues until you’ve had your heart broken by a woman. And you can’t understand my music until you’ve had group sex on Ecstasy.”

Radio – Felix Da Housecat

Felix Da Housecat releases a lot of music and if I’m honest most of his stuff doesn’t really do it for me. But in Radio we have a peppy banger of an exception. It’s that Digitalism style electro-house that peaked around 2008, and it’s good. Enjoy.

Moodymann – Moodymann

Moodymann is a bit of a freak, and he wants you to know it. He makes sultry, loose grooves from Detroit, and they’ll get you going nicely. Highlights on this 27-track monster of an album are Lyk 2 Use 2 and Freeki Muthafucka. But really, this album is best listened to as a whole – let yourself drift and float and groove.

Inspector Norse – Todd Terje

Look, I think everyone has heard this. But boy is it great. It’s the kind of track you put on when you are in the Uber just about to arrive at the club. Guaranteed to get the party going “Bmm, bmm, bmm, bmm, ba da da ba da da, ba da baaee da daaaaa” on any given night. Cheers Todd. Great ‘tash by the way.

Time Spent Away From U – DJ Seinfeld

Remember how I posted an EP by Rimbaudian last week? Well this album, Time Spent Away From U is by the same guy, different name. It’s his first full-length album and it’s one of my favourites from last year. Like, it’s real good. It’s all about that dusty, lo-fi house scene, like you’ve downloaded a crappy version off Limewire. Trust me, it’s nice. My pick, How U Make Me Feel, an acid beauty.

Turned On – Ben Gomori

A confession. A huge amount of the new music I post, comes from this show.

If you like what you see on here, do yourself a favour and check out Turned On. A weekly hour of the best new electronic and house, curated by producer, DJ and Monologues Records label boss Ben Gomori.

You can hear Ben play live at Farbfernseher in Berlin next month. He is also the founder of Pitchblack Playback – a cool set of events where an album is played in full, in complete darkness. Recommend. http://www.pitchblackplayback.com/

Harrison BDP

Most killing-it artist of 2018 so far? Harrison BDP has to be up there. He’s released 5 EPs on 4 labels with about 20 top quality house tracks. The Welshman is Pro. Lific. Expect to hear his name more and more.

Here are some of my top picks – a lot of them are reminiscent of another of my favourite Welsh-raised artists, Dauwd. Occasionally ambient, occasionally bold, always fresh.

The second two tracks on this EP are huge collabs with Garth James

Contact Light, and It’s All Just Sound are the picks from this EP

The title track on this EP is glorious.

Finally, his breakout hit from 2016, Small Talk.

Saw You For the First Time – Laurence Guy

What do you get if you throw together the most delicate sections of Leon Vynehall and the playfulness of Harvey Sutherland? Well you get this of course! Laurence Guy’s debut album released last year on Camberwell-based Church Records is a glittery piano-looping genre-transcending gem. There are literally no bad tracks! Enjoy.

He’s playing alongside Session Victim at XOYO this Saturday. Don’t miss out.

Bonus track: Laurence’s break-out single Les Mur, released on Ben Gomori’s Monologue Records back in 2015
