so. candy – so. mind

A lo-fi house EP coming at you by a pretty obscure German artist called so. mind. It all reminds me quite a lot of James Welsh – which is no bad thing.

Three tracks: Candy Groove eases you in; Callin For Ya gives you the jump-up piano riff you didn’t know you needed; and Preaching Life drops a touch of acid into the equation. Tasty.

Bonus track: a sweet, funkier groove (also happens to be the only other track on Spotify…)

If you’re keen on brass-laden house like this, and you’re on the hunt for a playlist to soundtrack your Summer, look no further.

Dusky

So Dusky have announced they are coming back for the 5th instalment of their ‘Take a Trip‘ Series. What does this mean? It means another chance to go on an 8 hour journey through the day and night with these colossi of the house music scene. Not one to miss.

It also means I have the perfect excuse to post some bangers. This is one deep discography for a duo that have only been around since 2011. Enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend listeners.

Un Vingt – Throwing Snow

Deep, synth heavy, breaks. There’s a hell of a lot to like about this track from UK artist Throwing Snow (real name Ross Tones… I think). Despite what you might guess form his name, there’s a lot of warmth to all his releases, and this is no different.

Bonus tracks: don’t say I’m not good to you. Here’s another couple. First up is Paint by Numbers

And now Prism – a more jumpy number.

Doin Ya Thing – Oliver Dollar

Doin Ya Thing is something a little bit special. Oliver $ sampling Detroit-house royalty Moodymann from a live set he did in Manchester back in 2010.

Moodymann just sounds like the boss. You can find the full mix here – it’s worth it. And my favourite Moodymann here and here.

Bonus track: if you know me, you know I’m big into this one. It’s just got one of those basslines that you just got to step to. All-time top weekend gold.

Dance of the Shaman (Man Power Remix) – Darius Syrossian

It’s my birthday week and I’m having a couple of celebrations. Friday I’m headed to the Choose Love x Dance For Refuge Easter Fundraiser in aid of Help Refugees at Mick’s Garage. Come with me and see Ben Gomori (obv) and headlining, Man Power.

Here is a remix by the Man himself. It’s a brooding house journey with some latin infused pianos and a large touch of the Nuits Sonores about it. And that can only be a good thing.

If you want to find out more about Man Power, his bio is pretty jokes, find it here. Also on the line-up: Brassica, Iona and MLE. It’s gonna be a party.
