I’ll be honest – I got real lucky with this one. The new Letherette album came out (it’s great) and after a quick Google it turns out that one half of the UK duo has a ‘tash! Joy!

Right, so what have we got? Funky loops, soulful samples, dreamy piano chords and solid basslines. It’s cool, it’s clever, and it’s fun. Two highlights are You Like to Dance? and my fave, Major.

DJ Harvey

This guy is revered as a bit of a God in the house scene. Famous for genre-bending sets of epic proportions. DJ Harvey is London-born but now travels the world as a superstar of the scene. Highly recommend. And boy, what a moustache.

Also, one of my favourite quotes of all time. “You can’t understand the blues until you’ve had your heart broken by a woman. And you can’t understand my music until you’ve had group sex on Ecstasy.”

You might have noticed that I love this guy. This bite-size EP was a collab with the Dutch vocalist Loes Jongerling. It’s deep, it’s soulful, and it’s obviously a bit wonky. Perfect for a classy dinner party that goes a little awry.

Radio – Felix Da Housecat

Felix Da Housecat releases a lot of music and if I’m honest most of his stuff doesn’t really do it for me. But in Radio we have a peppy banger of an exception. It’s that Digitalism style electro-house that peaked around 2008, and it’s good. Enjoy.

Don’t Sweat the Technique – Eric B. & Rakim

Some old school rap you say? Sure. 80s New York rap royalty, the DJ/MC pairing know how to tear it up. A cool double bass riff, some funky looped brass and Rakim’s bars is what this track is all about.

They managed 4 albums over 5 years before they broke up to pursue solo careers. But what a 5 years that must have been.

Moodymann – Moodymann

Moodymann is a bit of a freak, and he wants you to know it. He makes sultry, loose grooves from Detroit, and they’ll get you going nicely. Highlights on this 27-track monster of an album are Lyk 2 Use 2 and Freeki Muthafucka. But really, this album is best listened to as a whole – let yourself drift and float and groove.

Inspector Norse – Todd Terje

Look, I think everyone has heard this. But boy is it great. It’s the kind of track you put on when you are in the Uber just about to arrive at the club. Guaranteed to get the party going “Bmm, bmm, bmm, bmm, ba da da ba da da, ba da baaee da daaaaa” on any given night. Cheers Todd. Great ‘tash by the way.

Knock Knock – DJ Koze

Here’s another phenomenal producer with a moustache to match. DJ Koze has all the tricks in the box, and earlier this year released this varied, original album. Bonfire will bring out the sentimental in you, then you’ll get sped up, slowed down and turned around until you hit the 3 stars of the listing. Roisin Murphy in Illumination, and then Pick Up and Planet Haze. It’s a real corker, from one of the most talented producers out there.

Think moustache, think music, think Andrew Weatherall. He is one half of A Love From Outer Space, creating sets comprised of ‘slow’ electronic and club music for you to shake your hips to. An “oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity”. They have a cult following, and I think you’ll be able to see why.
