Best of 2021

Happy New Year HME crew. I’m looking forward to what 2022 has to offer, but before then, one final post on 2021.

I’ve started to form a bit of a theory: are personalised end of year wrap-ups a bit like dreams? Everyone finds their own fascinating and everyone else’s immensely boring…

Anyway… here are my most played tracks of the year courtesy of Spotify and Soundcloud.

The Difference (Feat. Toro y Moi) – Flume

Flume was right at the forefront of the golden days of Future Classic – the Aussie label burst onto the scene with a new sound that bridged dance, electronic and pop and had a lot of success with it. Since then, their popularity has only increased, but I haven’t heard anything for a while that has felt as original as the early days.

The Difference isn’t the track that is going to change my mind about that, but sometimes a generic, feel-good electronic song hits just right – and this is one of those. Good times are ahead people. ❤️

Anything in Return – Toro y Moi

I’m growing a moustache to raise money for the Movember Foundation. So this month I will be honouring some of the best moustaches in music. You can donate to my mo here:

Toro y Moi (Chaz Bundick) has been at the top of the synth-pop game for a while now. His sound is influenced by R&B and sometimes garage, but more the most part he stays in the indie electronic sweetspot. It’s fun, it’s catchy – you’ll like it, trust me. Jai Paul must be a jealous man.

My highlights is track 3, So Many Details – but it is a solid release taken as a whole. Fans are in luck; he’s prolific, and due a new album.
